Director Lech Majewski and cinematographer Adam Sikora picked up Golden Keys for the film based on the life of the Polish poet and communist martyr who committed suicide at age 26. Presenting the awards were jury chairman James Ragan, the Slovak-American poet and screenwriter, and festival honoree Catherine Deneuve.
Deneuve, Czech actress Jana Brechova (best known internationally as the young star of Milos Forman's "Loves of a Blonde") and veteran Slovak film and stage actor Ladislav Chudak each received retrospectives and the fest's Actor's Mission Award.
The jury praised the festival's youth appeal and fest president Peter Hledik's committed focus on film artistry. Jury members included Richard Demarco of the Edinburgh Festival; Pierre-Henri Deleau, former programmer for Directors Fortnight at Cannes; rising Czech helmer Sasa Gedeon; Hungarian director Krisztina Deak; and Slovak cinematographer Dodo Simoncic.
